In a move aimed at ensuring public convenience, authorities have suspended fee collections at the Baloh and Garamora toll plazas on the Kiratpur-Nerchowk highway in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur district. The suspension, announced by Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar, comes in response to landslides triggered by heavy rains affecting the region.
Issued under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the order halts toll collection for one month to alleviate the inconveniences caused by incessant heavy rainfall and landslides. These have severely damaged sections of the highway, leading to multiple blockages and long delays for commuters.
The decision follows a request by Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, urging the suspension of tolls on partially or fully blocked highway stretches. Sukhu reassured that the concerns were noted and appropriate measures would follow to address the matter.
