Toll plaza operators across India are in line for financial compensation over the next three months due to reduced user fee collections. This follows the introduction of a FASTag annual pass for private non-commercial vehicles, effective from August 15, as announced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
According to a recent NHAI circular, this compensation mechanism aims to stabilize contract agreements impacted by the annual pass rollout. With the system collecting tolls of Rs 72,931 crore for 2024-25, the plan ensures seamless operations despite the financial changes introduced by the new pass scheme.
The annual pass, applicable at over 1,150 toll booths nationwide, allows users access to 200 toll plazas annually for just Rs 3,000. The response from highway users has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating swift integration with the digital platform FASTag.
