Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday marked a significant milestone in Kolkata's urban development by laying the foundation stone for the six-lane Kona Expressway, a project valued at over Rs 1,200 crore. Additionally, three new metro routes were inaugurated, promising to transform the city's connectivity landscape.

The 7.2 km-long Kona Expressway is expected to enhance connectivity between Howrah, its neighboring rural areas, and Kolkata, drastically reducing travel time and stimulating trade, commerce, and tourism, according to officials. Modi heralded this development as a major advancement in Kolkata's transport infrastructure.

The prime minister also flagged off the new metro services spanning the Green, Yellow, and Orange lines, covering 13.61 km. This expansion is part of India's burgeoning metro network, now the third-largest globally. These new routes are set to alleviate road congestion and ease daily commuting for millions while enhancing quality of life in the city.
