The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced an extension in Metro service hours during the Ganpati festival. Lines 2A and 7 will operate until midnight to manage the increased passenger demand from August 27 to September 6.
This decision follows growing commuter requests for extended operating hours, as the Ganpati festival is celebrated extensively across the city. Line 2A, running from Dahisar (East) to Andheri (West), and Line 7, between Dahisar (East) and Gundavali in Andheri (East), will see the last train depart at midnight instead of the usual 11 PM.
According to MMRDA's release, a total of 317 services will be run on weekdays with a headway of 5 minutes and 50 seconds during peak times, while weekends will see 256 services with adjustments to manage the crowds effectively. MMMOCL Chief Rubal Agarwal emphasized the benefits of the extended schedule, enabling commuters to reach pandals without traffic woes.
