Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has expressed his congratulations to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for orchestrating the maiden export of three metric tons of GI-tagged Swadeshi Indi Lime from Vijayapura, Karnataka, to the United Arab Emirates. In a social media announcement, Goyal declared, "India's GI-tagged products are making their mark globally. Kudos to APEDADOC for facilitating this remarkable export." This significant milestone is set to open new pathways for India's GI-tagged agricultural goods in the global arena, enhancing opportunities for farmers and exporters.

The Geographical Indication (GI) tag is a mark of quality, awarded to products with unique characteristics linked to their geographical origin, ensuring authenticity and international recognition. With its powerful aroma and distinctive taste, Swadeshi Indi Lime has been added to India's growing list of export goods. This development comes on the heels of Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal officiating the dispatch of the first trial shipment of Garhwali Apples (King Roat variety) from Dehradun to Dubai earlier this month. APEDA's role in these exports highlights its pivotal function in promoting Indian agricultural products. The initiative's objective is to offer farmers increased market access, thereby boosting incomes and reinforcing India's agricultural framework.

Beyond limes and apples, Kargil apricot exports have witnessed a surge in demand, finding new markets in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar. The volume, totaling 1.5 metric tons, was exported under the government's One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, which aims to identify, promote, and enhance the branding of district-specific products. Goyal emphasized on X that the apricot export success underlines the rising international demand for Indian fruits. The initiative is part of the "Vocal for Local, Global Outreach" campaign, showcasing the government's pledge to support farmers through global trade.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) leads the ODOP scheme to foster balanced regional development across India. By spotlighting products like Indi Lime, Garhwali Apples, and Kargil Apricots, the vision is to link local producers with international clientele, amplifying exports and cultivating sustainable rural growth.
