The Northern Railway has cancelled 68 trains while resuming 24 services from Jammu and Katra, officials announced. This decision follows severe disruptions in rail traffic due to misalignment and breaches in the Pathankot-Jammu section caused by heavy rains and flash floods.
The disastrous weather conditions have particularly impacted pilgrims, with significant delays reported. A landslide near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra resulted in 34 deaths, as the Jammu region recorded 380 mm of rain, its highest since 1910.
To aid stranded passengers, shuttle services between Jammu Tawi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra have commenced. Additional intercity routes to Kolkata and New Delhi are operational. Approximately 5,784 passengers have been ferried in rescue operations.
