In a strategic move to address traffic congestion on Thane's Ghodbunder Road, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has mandated that heavy vehicles be restricted to operating between midnight and early morning hours. This directive was made public on Tuesday following a high-level meeting with senior officials from various departments.
The decision comes in light of significant traffic disruptions caused by ongoing road construction along the Ghodbunder stretch. Shinde's office released a statement emphasizing the need for strict enforcement of the new timings, tasking traffic police with ensuring compliance during daytime hours.
Coordination between Thane's municipal and police authorities, as well as nearby regions, is key to implementing these measures. Strict penalties are outlined for officers permitting breaches, and additional controls on vehicle movement from regions like Ahmedabad and provisions for temporary parking are part of the strategy. These measures, although temporary, are crucial until roadworks conclude.
