FAA Reaches Milestone in Air Traffic Control Recruitment
The Federal Aviation Administration achieved its goal of hiring 2,000 air traffic controllers in the fiscal year ending September 30. With ongoing flight delays due to staffing shortages, the FAA plans to hire 2,200 more controllers next year. Congress has allocated $12.5 billion to modernize systems and increase hiring.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has successfully reached its target of employing 2,000 new air traffic controllers within the past year, as confirmed by Deputy Administrator Chris Rocheleau during a recent industry event.
Despite this achievement, a significant shortage persists, with air traffic management still 3,500 controllers short of its required workforce. As a consequence, current controllers are enduring excessive work hours, including mandatory overtime and six-day work weeks.
To tackle these challenges, Congress has sanctioned a substantial $12.5 billion to revamp outdated air traffic control systems and facilitate further recruitment, as the FAA sets its sights on adding 2,200 new hires in the upcoming year.
