The Northern Railways have initiated a fortnight-long operation of twin trains between Katra-Banihal and Katra-Budgam to provide a reliable travel alternative amid the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. This proactive measure was implemented following heavy rains that led to traffic disruption in the region.
According to officials, a special Vastodom train runs from Budgam to Katra, while another service ferries passengers between Katra and Banihal. This strategic rail service is expected to enhance connectivity and safety for passengers affected by the highway suspension.
The decision, spearheaded by Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar, was enabled through the concerted efforts of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal and Senior Divisional Operations Manager Arish Bansal. Bansal emphasized that passenger safety and convenience remain a top priority for the division.
