A recent report by Indeed highlights a significant trend among gig workers during the festive hiring peak. Two in three seasonal workers are not just seeking extra income but view these roles as potential pathways to long-term employment.
However, a disconnect remains between worker ambitions and employer practices. The survey, conducted from April to September 2025, involved 1,261 employers and 2,533 employees. Results show that 53% of employers still keep most festive hires on temporary contracts, up 7% from last year. Financial stability is a priority for 69% of job seekers, surpassing short-term perks such as festive bonuses, which are less appealing to the workforce.
Sectors like e-commerce, logistics, retail, and hospitality continue to drive festive employment, but they are also grappling with increased no-shows and high attrition rates as workers seek more stable and rewarding opportunities.
