In an extensive traffic sweep, Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi District Police penalised over 2,500 vehicle owners for a range of violations, collecting a significant Rs 8 lakh in fines, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The intensive drive aimed to address mounting accident concerns, targeting drivers for infractions such as failure to wear helmets or seat belts, lack of valid documentation, lane misuse, excessive speed, intoxicated driving, and illegal vehicle modifications.
The dedicated operation commenced at 7 pm on Tuesday and concluded on Wednesday morning. Authorities are urging residents to comply strictly with traffic regulations, accepting photo or video evidence of violations via WhatsApp at 6909300160 for enforcement action.
