Durai Selvam, a fisherman from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to concentrate on harvesting tuna during a meeting held in New Delhi.

Selvam was among nine fishermen invited to interact with the PM at a special Krishi programme organized at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) on October 11.

Praising the government's initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Selvam highlighted the infrastructure benefits and urged further investment in a deep-sea fishing training facility, diesel subsidies, and an extended harbor for the islands. The Tuna cluster project is expected to yield significant contributions to India's seafood industry, tapping into untapped oceanic resources.
