In a significant development for Odisha's industrial landscape, the state government has successfully brokered a joint venture between JSW Steel Limited and JFE Steel Corporation. The collaboration has attracted a hefty investment package of over Rs 15,000 crore from Japan, dedicated to the expansion of a steel project in the Sambalpur district.
The 50:50 joint venture sets its sights on enhancing the integrated steel plant of Bhushan Power & Steel Limited at Rengali, upgrading its capacity from 4.5 to 10 million tonnes per annum. This massive expansion comes with a total investment plan of Rs 32,000 crore and reaffirms Odisha's strategic push towards becoming a high-value steel manufacturing hub.
Prominent figures such as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hailed the initiative, underscoring its role in fostering India-Japan industrial cooperation and boosting value-added steel production. With an eye on the future, additional investments and job creation initiatives underline Odisha's ambition to support broader economic growth in the region.
