Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) employees ended their strike after successful talks with the state government on Friday. The government conceded to the employees' demands, agreeing on issues such as merging RTC with the government and revising pay by 11 percent. A dedicated committee will oversee the merger process.
The strike, which began on April 22, saw a tragic incident with the death of Shankar Goud, an RTC driver, who attempted suicide during the protests. His demise has sparked criticism towards the government for restricting the funeral proceedings, raising tensions in the Muttojipet village.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticized authorities, accusing them of ignoring the emotional needs of the grieving family. Meanwhile, promises of financial aid, a house, and a government job were made to the bereaved family, as Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced ex gratia compensations.
