The newly flagged off Vande Bharat Express train started its journey between Jammu and Srinagar, the first direct connection between these capitals. This service promises to enhance tourism and the local economy, reducing travel time and providing an all-weather link.
The launch is part of a significant rail project connecting Kashmir to the rest of India, initiated in the late 1990s. The modern train, equipped with advanced amenities, covers a distance of 267 kilometers and operates six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays.
Construction using indigenous technology, the Vande Bharat includes a 'Kavach' safety system, a GPS-based info system, and rotating seats. With the redeveloped railway stations and strategic links, the service marks a milestone in transforming Jammu & Kashmir's rail connectivity.
