Odisha Announces Wage Hike Amidst Labor Day Celebrations

In a significant move during International Labour Day, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an increase of Rs 10 in the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), effective from April 1. This hike addresses the demands from opposition parties to enhance the minimum wage in the state.
The revised wages will raise daily earnings for unskilled workers to Rs 472, semi-skilled to Rs 522, skilled to Rs 572, and highly skilled to Rs 622. Both the BJD and Congress have called for a further increase to Rs 800, considering the escalating market prices.
Majhi highlighted initiatives for worker welfare, including the 'Shramik Saathi' app for easy service access. He emphasized Odisha's commitment to creating job opportunities within the state, reversing migration trends, and ensuring social security for unorganised sector workers.
