A segment of the Vikramshila Setu bridge over the Ganga river in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, collapsed early Monday morning, officials confirmed.
No casualties were reported in the incident, which caused a major slab to fall near pillar number 133. Authorities responded quickly, removing vehicles and people from the area.
Traffic has been suspended, with drivers advised to use alternate routes. An expert engineering committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the collapse. Previous reports had warned about the weakening state of the bridge's protection walls.
