Soaring Fuel Prices: ITA Airways' Strategy to Navigate Turbulent Skies
ITA Airways will maintain its flight schedule despite increasing jet fuel costs, covering 80% of its fuel requirements for the year. To offset fuel cost spikes due to geopolitical tensions, the airline plans ticket price hikes of 5-10% and aims to enhance fuel efficiency through newer aircraft and technical measures.
ITA Airways intends to persevere with its scheduled flights, undeterred by escalating jet fuel prices, according to CEO Joerg Eberhart. The airline has hedged 80% of its fuel needs, ensuring continuity in operations.
The Italian carrier, under the Lufthansa group, is contemplating a 5-10% hike in ticket prices this year. This measure is in reaction to rising fuel costs stemming from the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, Eberhart revealed.
In addition to pricing adjustments, Eberhart highlighted efforts to increase fuel efficiency through innovative technical measures. As part of this strategy, ITA Airways plans to modernize its fleet, aiming to reduce the average aircraft age to enhance fuel consumption.
