Biocon's founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has appointed her niece, Claire Mazumdar, to eventually succeed her as head of India's leading biotechnology firm. The 73-year-old industry pioneer revealed her succession plan via a social media post, dispelling rumors of an immediate transition.
Mazumdar-Shaw underscored that she is not retiring soon, emphasizing her niece's gradual transition into the role. At 37, Claire Mazumdar has an impressive resume, having founded Bicara Therapeutics and achieved a Nasdaq listing by 2024.
Claire, holding degrees from MIT and Stanford, brings expertise and a strong professional background to the table. In making her decision, Mazumdar-Shaw emphasized the need to ensure Biocon remains under competent leadership.
