New Driving Institute to Boost Road Safety in Maharashtra

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has greenlit a new Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Maharashtra's Thane district. The institute aims to bolster driver training infrastructure and improve road safety across the state, confirmed officials.
Set to be located in Bapsai village in Kalyan taluka, this will be the state's fourth IDTR, following those in Pune, Nagpur, and Latur. The project, operating under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, will focus on advanced driver training, research facilities, and skill development for both commercial and private vehicle operators.
The IDTR's approved cost is Rs 18.42 crore, with the Union government providing Rs 17.25 crore. The private partner, Bhaskarrao Mahajan Samajik Shaikshanik Va Sanskrutik Sanstha, will cover the remaining Rs 1.17 crore. Strategically located near accident-prone highways, the institute aims to instill better driving standards and road safety awareness.
