Strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's austerity and fuel conservation appeal has come from Odisha's Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, who advocates for 'economic self-defence' to bolster national economic security.

He emphasized the importance of economic resilience and self-reliance, suggesting that conscious public participation and responsible consumption can significantly enhance the economy.

The Governor has already implemented the use of electric vehicles in his convoy and solar energy at Lok Bhavan, which is now a model net-zero campus. He plans initiatives like 'Combustion Engine-Free Days' and incentivizes the use of electric vehicles among staff, while also advocating for reduced gold purchases and edible oil consumption to support indigenous products.
