Cruising Ahead: Transforming Jammu and Kashmir's Waterways

The ambitious project of transforming Jammu and Kashmir's water transport is making significant strides with the development of National Waterway-49 along the Jhelum river. Spanning 76 kilometers from Pantha Chowk to Wular Lake, the corridor is set to feature eight floating jetties, anticipated for completion by July.

In a coordinated effort between the Jammu and Kashmir government and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), vital infrastructure, including navigation aids and onshore facilities, is being established to enhance the waterway's functionality.

Furthermore, plans unfolding for National Waterway-26 and Waterway-84 aim to invigorate tourism and economic activity by integrating modern, eco-friendly water-transport systems across the Union Territory, with an emphasis on maintaining ecological balance.
