On Saturday, a minister from Jammu and Kashmir took an unconventional route to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative for fuel conservation. Opting for a 'tonga', a traditional horse-cart, Satish Sharma, who handles the portfolio of Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Transportation, and Youth Services and Sports, traveled along Srinagar's Gupkar Road.
The live-streamed journey on his Facebook page aimed to endorse Modi's call for austerity through reduced fuel usage. Sharma advocated for the use of simpler means of transportation, stressing the importance of minimizing petrol and diesel consumption as a step towards handling the global energy crisis.
This act of adopting eco-friendly travel was also part of Sharma's invitation to tourists, encouraging them to explore Jammu and Kashmir's scenic vistas during the ongoing tourism season. The action follows an appeal by the Prime Minister urging fuel conservation amidst geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
