Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressed the rising concern over the price hike of essential goods on Monday. He called for immediate action to prevent any unjustified surges.

The Chief Minister's Office announced on X that Sarma has issued orders to set up DC-led District Monitoring Committees within 3–4 days. These committees are to ensure the mandatory display of retail and wholesale prices at all shops and wholesale outlets across the state.

Sarma also directed that strict actions, including the cancellation of trade licenses, be taken against those engaging in abnormal pricing. Weekly review meetings between deputy commissioners, chambers of commerce, and trade bodies, along with intensive field monitoring, have been mandated to curb unusual price escalations.
