The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented a traffic diversion plan on a 1.250-km stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor to ensure commuter safety during slope stabilisation works, officials said on Friday.

The corridor was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month.

The NHAI scheduled the slope stabilisation work on Phase 4 of the Ganeshpur-Dehradun section after securing necessary clearances and diverting additional forest land for the project.

The highway authority aimed to complete the safety operations, which involve scaling hill slopes and removing excess debris, before the onset of the monsoon season, the officials said.

The traffic diversion will remain operational from May 22 to June 8, while the remaining sections of the highway will stay open for regular traffic, they added.

According to the officials, the NHAI will deploy flagmen round-the-clock to streamline vehicle movement and guide commuters during the execution of the works.

Dehradun-bound vehicles will shift from the left-hand side carriageway to the right-hand side carriageway at km 14+650 for 1.250 km, before being shifted back to the left-hand side carriageway at km 15+900 just before the Daat Kali Tunnel.

Delhi and Saharanpur-bound vehicles will cross the Daat Kali Tunnel, divert onto the old highway section for 1.3 km, and merge back onto the right-hand side carriageway of the economic corridor at km 14+650, the officials said.

The Ganeshpur-Dehradun section passes through mountainous terrain where engineers performed hill cutting to widen specific portions.

Earlier, the NHAI had installed stone catchers at sensitive locations along the stretch to mitigate the risk of rockfalls on the highway.
