ECLGS 5.0 Sees Strong MSME Response Amidst West Asia Crisis
The Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) 5.0 gains momentum as it supports businesses during the West Asia crisis. Over 2.62 lakh applications have been received, totaling Rs 1.71 lakh crore, with MSMEs accounting for a major share. The scheme ensures credit access amid global disruptions.
The recently launched Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) 5.0 has garnered remarkable attention with over 2.62 lakh applications submitted, amounting to an impressive Rs 1.71 lakh crore, according to the latest data. Initiated to alleviate liquidity concerns amid the West Asia crisis, the scheme highlights its pivotal role for struggling businesses.
Out of the applications received, nearly 79,950 have been sanctioned, representing Rs 35,194 crore. Guarantees have been extended for over 26,000 accounts, totalling around Rs 15,720 crore. A significant portion of applications stems from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), underlining their reliance on this crucial initiative.
The Union Cabinet's approval of ECLGS 5.0 on May 5, 2026, aimed to buffer businesses against liquidity challenges. By offering 100 percent guarantee coverage for MSMEs and 90 percent for other eligible entities, this scheme promises continuous credit availment. Its inception during the COVID pandemic in 2020 served as a lifeline for businesses encountering economic turbulence.
