The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, has secured a 123rd position in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, reflecting a remarkable climb over the past two years. India now boasts 54 institutions in the list, making it the fourth most represented country globally.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated this achievement, emphasizing the government's commitment to advancing India's research and innovation landscapes. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan praised India's record performance, highlighting IIT Delhi's surge due to enhanced Employer Reputation, Citations, Sustainability, and Academic Reputation.
The QS rankings, conducted by London-based analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds, assess universities on several parameters, including academic reputation and graduate employability. Indian universities have demonstrated notable progress, with six public and private institutes of eminence improving their positions. This evolution foretells India's expanding global significance in higher education.
