Schools in the Ranchi and Khunti districts will stay closed on Friday as heavy rain is expected, according to an official advisory. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red' alert for Ranchi, predicting severe weather conditions from Thursday morning to Friday morning.
Responding to the forecasts, the Ranchi district administration has extended school closures for another day to ensure student safety, noted Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri. Schools of all categories, from kindergarten to class 12, are included in the precautionary measure.
Besides school disruptions, the heavy rainfall has already caused tragic casualties, including the deaths of four individuals, among them schoolchildren, and led to infrastructural damages in various districts. The monsoon's strong presence since Tuesday has resulted in widespread rain, expected to persist until June 20.
