In Jharkhand, schools across five districts, including Ranchi, will remain closed on Friday as a precaution against forecasted heavy rainfall, according to an official statement.
Districts such as Ranchi, Khunti, and West Singhbhum have decided to close all schools, while East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharswan will suspend classes up to the eighth grade. Ranchi schools were also closed on Thursday due to continuous downpour.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red' alert for Ranchi, expecting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from Thursday to Friday morning. This weather system continues to pose serious safety concerns, which led the Ranchi District Administration to extend the closure order for schools. Non-compliance with the order will attract penalties per the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The southwest monsoon has covered Jharkhand and is expected to bring widespread rainfall until June 20.
