Rural Education Boost: Tamil Nadu Opens Four New Arts & Science Colleges

In a significant move to bolster higher education in rural Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated four new government arts and science colleges on Friday. This brings the total number of government-run institutions to 191, demonstrating the state's commitment to expanding educational opportunities for rural youth.
The newly inaugurated colleges are situated in strategic locations: K V Kuppam in Vellore district, Thuraiyur in Tiruchirappalli district, Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi district, and Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district. These institutions will open their doors to students in the academic year 2025-26, promising enhanced educational access for young learners.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Stalin inaugurated new facilities at Thiruvalluvar University, including staff quarters, at a cost of Rs 36.18 crore. The event was attended by notable figures such as Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiaan. Additionally, Rs 80 crore was spent on renovating the iconic Valluvar Kottam, highlighting the state's dedication to cultural education and heritage preservation.
