Language Policy Debate Stirs Political Tensions in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed plans to establish a committee tasked with determining whether Hindi or another suitable third language should be incorporated into the curriculum from Class I across the state. This announcement comes on the heels of retracting two government resolutions concerning language policies amidst fierce opposition protests.

The withdrawal, spurred by political entities like Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, prompted Fadnavis to reiterate that educational decisions would focus solely on students' welfare and not succumb to political influences. Criticisms have been directed towards the state government's handling of language policies, leading to heightened political tensions.

Meanwhile, Fadnavis addressed various political critiques, including disputes with Uddhav Thackeray and Congress accusations of RSS influence. He emphasized the BJP's openness to accepting leaders from other parties, reflecting an ongoing political evolution. Additionally, Fadnavis tasked the police to appoint a senior officer to investigate molestation allegations within schools.
