Kerala's Higher Education Minister, R Bindu, has leveled serious accusations at the Kerala University Vice Chancellor, Mohanan Kunnummal, alleging misuse of power. Bindu claims the VC overstepped his authority by suspending the university's Registrar, KS Anil Kumar, following a controversial programme cancellation at the senate hall.
The minister asserted that only the university syndicate holds the power to take action against the registrar. The programme in question was cancelled by the registrar due to the display of 'Bharat Mata,' a symbol associated with the RSS. The minister criticized Governor Rajendra Arlekar's attendance at the event, accusing him of rule violations.
The state's General Education Minister, V Sivankutty, joined the chorus of criticism, branding the VC as acting improperly in alignment with the Governor. Both ministers emphasized that the Governor's limited powers should not interfere with university governance, citing recent Supreme Court comments as reinforcement.
