The Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced new measures to ensure student safety by mandating the installation of CCTV cameras in schools, an official confirmed Monday. The updated affiliation norms require real-time audio-visual monitoring across various areas of the campus to protect students from potential threats and bullying.
According to CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta, the initiative aims to create a safer environment in schools by implementing advanced surveillance technology and having vigilant staff. As per the revised Chapter 4 of the Affiliation Bye Laws-2018, schools must install high-resolution CCTV cameras excluding toilets, ensuring footage is recorded and stored for at least 15 days.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights' Manual highlights the importance of comprehensive safety, which extends from home to school and back. Emotional safety is crucial, as teachers and parents often struggle to identify hidden emotional issues. The new amendment aims to mitigate bullying's adverse effects on students' self-esteem and stress levels.
