The Delhi High Court has instructed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to establish a permanent grievance redressal committee to address issues experienced by NEET candidates due to technical setbacks during their exams. This move aims to handle complaints more efficiently and fairly, especially for candidates who lose exam time through no fault of their own.
In its ruling, the high court emphasized that constitutional courts cannot review CCTV footage for each candidate affected by technical issues during exams. Instead, Justice Vikas Mahajan highlighted the necessity for a committee of experts to examine such cases transparently and equitably. The standing committee is also given the liberty to create a suitable formula for such examinations.
The decision emerged from a plea filed by a NEET-UG 2025 candidate who experienced biometric verification problems, resulting in a loss of exam time. While the petitioner's request for compensatory marks led to a court order for grace marks using a Supreme Court normalization formula, the candidate's updated results will be uploaded shortly. This ruling underscores the court's stance that candidates should not be penalized for time lost due to technical errors.
