The Assam government is gearing up for the second edition of the 'Nijut Moina' scheme, designed to bolster educational opportunities for girls. Spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the initiative aims to fight child marriage by offering financial aid to girls pursuing higher education.
During a recent video conference, Sarma discussed the launch with cabinet colleagues, district commissioners, and educational officials, emphasizing transparent implementation. The scheme, first launched last year, granted assistance of Rs 132 crore to nearly 200,000 girls, proving effective in curbing child marriage figures.
This state's pioneering program aspires not only to financially assist but also to empower girls to make informed life choices. Eligible students will receive monthly stipends, with the ultimate goal of ensuring their long-term economic independence and enhanced social impact.
