The Bihar government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has taken a significant step to boost the remuneration of support staff in government schools. On Friday, the honorarium for cooks, night watchmen, and physical education and health instructors was doubled, an announcement strategically made months before the state assembly elections.
According to CM Kumar, this decision acknowledges the crucial role these roles play in enhancing the state's educational infrastructure. Cooks involved in the mid-day meal scheme will now earn Rs 3,300 monthly, up from Rs 1,650. Night watchmen will receive Rs 10,000, and the honorarium for physical education and health instructors is increased to Rs 16,000 monthly, with their annual increment rising from Rs 200 to Rs 400.
Since the inception of his governance in 2005, Kumar has emphasized substantial investments in education. The budget has surged from Rs 4,366 crore to Rs 77,690 crore, reflecting improvements through increased teacher appointments, new school facilities, and better infrastructure, underscoring his commitment to advancing Bihar's educational landscape.
