On Monday, members of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) maintained their sit-in protest at Presidency University, pressing for the swift release of the degree entrance test results and an expeditious start to the admission process.
According to Bitan Islam, spokesperson for the SFI unit at Presidency University, despite the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board resolving to publish the results on August 9 following student protests, the demonstrators are firm on continuing their sit-in until the Presidency University Degree Entrance Test (PUBDET) results are announced. Islam articulated skepticism among protestors, highlighting the disruption caused to the undergraduate admissions process and the need for its prompt commencement as per court directives, particularly concerning complications related to OBC reservations.
The protest on the university grounds began on July 30 and has now extended into its fifth day. Additionally, Islam pointed out students' demands for the issuance of forms pertaining to the Presidency University Master's Degree Entrance Test (PUMDET). Meanwhile, a university official indicated that PUBDET results, conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board for BA and BSc course admissions, are expected by the second week of this month. The Board is currently uploading caste certificates for every candidate following a recent directive from the higher education department.
