The Students' Federation of India (SFI) has voiced strong opposition to the Rs 1 lakh bond mandate imposed by Delhi University on candidates in the student union elections, labeling the measure as both arbitrary and exclusionary.

According to a notification issued by the university on August 8, candidates running in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) polls must provide the bond as a precautionary step against property defacement during election campaigns. The elections for 2025-26 are set for September 18, with vote counting the following day.

Sohan Kumar Yadav, a member of SFI's Delhi State Committee, acknowledged the administration's rightful intent to curb defacement but criticized the move for being potentially harmful. Critics argue it could dissuade ordinary students from participating, especially those from marginalized communities. With the upcoming vote in sight, candidates and political organizations continue to navigate the evolving guidelines.
