In a disturbing turn of events, gunmen have abducted secondary school students en route to university entrance examinations in Nigeria's Benue state. This alarming incident marks the first reported student abduction of the year, as confirmed by the region's governor on Thursday night.
The attack occurred on the Makurdi–Otukpo road, with local media reporting 17 students missing. Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the incident, labeling it as a 'cowardly act' and highlighting its defiance of civil order and humanity, given the students' urgent mission.
Authorities have initiated search-and-rescue operations, pledging exhaustive efforts to locate the victims. Despite governmental assurances to quell such threats, frequent kidnappings continue to disrupt daily life in Nigeria, sparking public discontent.
