A 14-year-old boy tragically drowned in a well in Beed district while attempting to learn swimming, according to local police reports. The accident occurred on a farm plot in Pimpalgaon last Thursday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Viraj Vishal Shingare, was a Class VIII student at the Zilla Parishad Higher Primary School. His attempt to stay afloat using a thermocol float failed as it became untied, leading to his untimely death in the 35-foot deep well.
The school's headmaster, Akash Dhakne, announced that they would submit a proposal to the primary education officer seeking compensation for Shingare's family under the Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi Student Insurance Scheme, which offers financial assistance of Rs 75,000 in case of such tragedies.
