UP cleric launches book on Constitution, seeks inclusion in madrassa curriculum for 'reform'

Legal advisor to the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Uttar Pradesh, Kaab Rashidi, on Saturday launched a book on the Constitution, aiming to provide madrassa students with knowledge regarding their legal and constitutional rights and duties. Titled 'The Indian Constitution: An Ideological Study (Bhartiya Samvidhan: Ek Vaicharik Adhyayan)', Rashidi said he will campaign for their inclusion in madrassa curricula in 15 states. He said he will approach various state-level madrassa education councils and request them to incorporate the book into their curricula, starting from the 'Saum' grade, a level generally considered equivalent to the intermediate (10+2) standard. Speaking to reporters following the book's formal launch at a press conference in Lucknow, Rashidi said the book marks the ''beginning of the madrassa reform process''. One of the book's key objectives is to educate madrassa students on how their ancestors sacrificed everything in the service of the nation, and to inspire them to contribute towards making India a ''vishwa guru'', he said. The book covers fundamental information on the Constitution, several laws and major court verdicts, thereby enabling them to become better citizens, Rashidi said. Rashidi said it is imperative to mould students studying in madrassas into better and more socially conscious citizens and that they are educated about the nation's laws and Constitution. This book has been specifically designed to fulfil precisely this objective, he said. The book will be released in five volumes and is slated to be translated into 10 Indian languages to ensure its reach extends across the entire country, he said, adding that four additional volumes of the book are scheduled for publication.
