Registration for 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojna' to begin from June: Delhi govt

The BJP-led Delhi government is likely to start registrations for the 'Mahila Samridhi Yojana' for providing Rs 2500 monthly to the eligible and needy women in the national capital from June, official sources said on Sunday. A registration portal for the scheme, one of the poll promises of BJP in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, has been readied and it is likely to start functioning from the first week of June, they said. According to the sources, the government may launch the scheme with a new name- 'Delhi Laxmi Yojna'- which is expected to cover around 17 lakh women from economically weaker sections. In March, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while presenting annual budget for 2026-27, allocated Rs 5,100 crore for the scheme. The Delhi in last fiscal year also allocated Rs 5,100 crore for the scheme; but its implementation was delayed because of lack of authentic data to cross check eligible beneficiaries. Gupta had repeatedly assured to launch the scheme with a foolproof plan to maximise benefit of the scheme. A panel, headed by CM Gupta, was formed in March last year to implement the scheme, which also included some cabinet ministers. The scheme will be implemented by the Women and Child Development department which is headed by the Chief Minister herself. Officials said that eligibility criteria of the scheme were also worked out and only women with Delhi's Aadhaar number and belonging to below poverty line category will be considered for the scheme.
