Empowering Voices: Enhancing AAC Knowledge and Skills

A recent workshop in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh gathered more than 50 professionals to focus on enhancing knowledge and practical understanding of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). This effort aims to support natural speech in individuals with various speech impairments rather than replacing it.

The session, attended by special educators and speech therapists, underscored person-centred approaches and the increasing demand for trained experts in this field. Renowned figures such as Padma Shri awardee Sudha Kaul, founder of the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy, led the workshop.

Interactive sessions, demonstrations, and discussions provided insights into AAC strategies, inclusive practices, and the necessity of multidisciplinary intervention. The event fostered an exchange of experiences and best practices among participants, emphasizing continued learning and collaboration in communication support.
