Safety concerns at Delhi University have intensified after a fire broke out in portable cabins used as classrooms. Rising alarm has led an alumnus of the Faculty of Law, Umesh Kumar, to urge the university administration to shut down these makeshift facilities due to fire hazards and inadequate safety measures.

The use of portable cabins has increased across DU to accommodate a surge in student admissions following policy changes. However, students have raised issues about the deteriorating condition of these cabins, highlighting the lack of air conditioning and safety protocols, especially during summer.

Legal petitions have been filed to address these challenges, urging shifts to safer venues and demanding accountability for allowing the extended use of these temporary structures. A hearing is scheduled for July to discuss the matter further.
