The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) protested at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha on Friday, demanding the regularisation for teaching and non-teaching posts in 12 Delhi government-funded colleges affiliated with the University of Delhi.

According to a DUTA statement, hundreds of teachers participated in the protest, raising concerns over the prolonged delay in filling sanctioned vacancies in colleges fully funded by the Delhi government.

Addressing the gathering, DUTA president V S Negi said the delay in regular appointments resulted in excessive dependence on ad hoc and temporary teachers, adversely affecting academic functioning and the teaching-learning environment in the colleges.

Negi said although posts had been duly created and appointments were being made in accordance with University and UGC norms, the regularisation process had not yet begun in these institutions.

DUTA demanded immediate approval of all existing teaching and non-teaching posts, and regularisation of ad hoc teachers currently working there.

DUTA Secretary Bimlendu Tirthunker said the necessary documents related to these posts had already been submitted to the Directorate of Higher Education by the respective college authorities.

The association said any further delay would deepen the academic and administrative crisis in these colleges and urged the Delhi government to take immediate action in the interest of teachers, students and higher education in the national Capital.
