Rahul Gandhi has voiced sharp criticism against Narendra Modi's administration, accusing it of prioritizing its political longevity over the educational future of Indian students. His remarks follow the ongoing controversy surrounding the CBSE's new evaluation system, which has reportedly caused significant issues for students.
Gandhi alleges that the contract for on-screen marking was unjustly awarded to COEMPT, a company he claims won through lowered standards and questionable methods. Despite repeated calls for an independent judicial inquiry into the matter, Modi's silence continues, Gandhi argues, suggesting a lack of responsibility.
The Congress leader highlighted a series of technical compromises in the contract bidding process, such as reduced scanning requirements and the absence of penalties for errors. He lamented that 18.5 lakh students' futures are jeopardized by what he terms as a corrupt system.
Emphasizing widespread student distrust, Gandhi shared experiences from his interaction with NEET candidates, revealing their awareness of systemic exam malpractice. He urged for a comprehensive overhaul of the examination system with input from educational stakeholders to secure future generations' educational integrity.
Alongside, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh critiqued the CBSE for its rushed adoption of the new system without sufficient regional pilots, questioning the motivations behind these decisions and suggesting potential governmental pressures in favoring COEMPT.
