The Cannes Film Festival 2025 will celebrate legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray with the screening of a restored 4K version of his film, 'Aranyer Din Ratri'. The classic, featuring renowned actors Sharmila Tagore and Soumitra Chatterjee, will be presented through the efforts of the Film Heritage Foundation.

The restoration was announced via an Instagram post by the Film Heritage Foundation, highlighting its collaboration with The Film Foundation's World Cinema Project, Janus Films, and the Criterion Collection. Additionally, the Sinhalese film 'Gehenu Lamai' by Sumitra Peries will grace the prestigious event.

Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Director of the Film Heritage Foundation, expressed the emotional journey of restoring Ray's work. He acknowledged the support from the French Government's FISCH initiative, which facilitated the meticulous restoration of these cultural treasures. The Cannes premiere will feature a host of film luminaries, including Wes Anderson, Sharmila Tagore, and other esteemed members of the film community.
