The Karnataka government's submission to the Supreme Court comes amidst an ongoing controversy over Kamal Haasan's film 'Thug Life', which is embroiled in a linguistic dispute. The government confirmed no restrictions on the release and pledged necessary protection if the producers opt to screen the film.

Despite the government assurance, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce requested an apology from Kamal Haasan for his contentious remarks linking Kannada's origins to Tamil. The statement has sparked protests from pro-Kannada groups, with the matter scheduled for a Supreme Court hearing.

Although protests persist, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasized the importance of respecting the Supreme Court's directive to release the film, urging peaceful compliance from pro-Kannada organizations. This comes in response to the widespread discontent sparked by the actor's remarks.
