Director Michael Shanks is facing allegations of plagiarism concerning his film 'Together,' which stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie. The accusations suggest similarities to the indie film 'Better Half,' prompting a lawsuit. Shanks, however, vehemently denies these claims, asserting that the movie is genuinely rooted in his life experiences.
Shanks, an Australian writer-director, made his cinematic debut with the body horror film 'Together,' securing a $17 million deal with Neon at Sundance. He describes the movie as a personal narrative influenced by his long-term relationship, musical aspirations, and the loss of his father.
Set for theatrical release on July 30, the movie's originality has been called into question. Accusations claim Franco and Alison Breeze's involvement followed a pitch rejection of 'Better Half' by their agent. Shanks describes the allegations as both deeply upsetting and entirely false.
