The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which had been on hold for five years, is set to restart through the Lipulekh Pass, officials confirmed on Saturday. A review meeting was held to assess the preparations for the pilgrimage, set to begin on June 30.
Pithoragarh District Magistrate Vinod Goswami revealed plans for 250 pilgrims to visit this year, divided into five batches of 50. Notably, vehicles will be used to transport pilgrims to the Lipulekh Pass, marking a first in the yatra history. The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam has organized 13 vehicles, with two in reserve.
Medical assessments are planned for pilgrims at Gunji and Nabhidhang as part of the altitude acclimatization process. A physician and enhanced medical facilities will be available. Agencies like the Indian Army and Border Roads Organisation are involved to ensure road safety amid monsoon landslide risks. The yatra will conclude with a return journey to New Delhi, encompassing various cultural sites.
